چکیده

Due to the increasing role of quickest paths for on-demand routing in computer networks, it is important to compute them faster, perhaps, by trading-o3 the quality for computational speed. We consider the computation of a quickest path from a source node to a destination node for a given message size in a network with n nodes and m links each of which is speci6ed by bandwidth and delay. Every known quickest path algorithm computes m shortest paths either directly or indirectly, and this step contributes to most of its computational complexity which is generally of the form O(m +mn log n). We present a probabilistic quickest path algorithm that computes an approximate quickest path with time complexity O(pm + pn log n) by randomly selecting p6m bandwidths at which the shortest paths are computed. We show that the delay of the computed path is close to optimal with a high probability that approaches 1 exponentially fast with respect to p=m. Simulation results indicate that this algorithm computes the optimal quickest paths with p=m¡ 0:1 for almost all randomly generated networks with n¿ 40. We also present an algorithm to compute the path-table consisting of these approximate quickest paths with the same time complexity of O(pm+ pn log n). c © 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Algorithms for the quickest path problem and the enumeration of quickest paths

Let N = (V, R, e, I) be an input network with node set V, arc set A, positive arc weight function c and nonnegative arc weight function 1. Let u be the amount of data to be transmitted. The quickest path problem is to find a routing path in N to transmit the given amount of data in minimum time. In a recent paper, Chen and Chin proposed this problem and developed algorithms for the single pair ...

Quickest Path Distances on Context-Free Labeled Graphs∗

Given σ units of data and a digraph G = (V,E) whose edges have delays, bandwidth constraints, and are labeled by terminals from a CFG (context-free grammar) G. A path p adheres to G’s path constraints iff the concatenation of all terminals along p forms a word of the language generated by G. The all-pairs quickest CFG labeled-path distance problem is: for all pairs of vertices, find the minimum...

Reliable and Restricted Quickest Path Problems

In a dynamic network, the quickest path problem asks for a path minimizing the time needed to send a given amount of flow from source to sink along this path. In practical settings, for example in evacuation or transportation planning, the reliability of network arcs depends on the specific scenario of interest. In this circumstance, the question of finding a quickest path among all those havin...
